I have tested this with a Lexmark 4039. The 'Other LaserWriter' setting should work with most other Apple LaserWriter Printers in serial mode. But it should work with any postscript printer that has a serial port. If your printer needs a different configuration then what is currently installed contact me and I can add a new configuration.
This answer requires it's own page...
No, talking to the serial ports is completely different. I'm looking at it though.
No, the '300 is a QuickDraw printer not PostScript. However you should be able to use it with the 'LaserWriter 300/LS' driver that SHOULD be in your chooser.
LW_Serial_Bridge is designed to work with any PostScript printer that has a serial port. However I have not had time to install any others. If you have a printer that you want to use send me an email and I'll be sure to include it.
Fonts buit in to the printer include
Yes.
Belkin and Keyspan both make adapters. However I do not have experance with them. Either SHOULD work but I have not tested them.
Desktop Printer EXTENSION is not compatible. This extension was required in systems before 8.0. This function is now built into the OS so the extension is not required. (And it creates problems if present.)
You don't. Select the Desktop Printer Icon and press command-L. This will make it the default printer. If you have other printers make Desktop Printers for them and select by selecting and then pressing command-L.
Yes, You can upgrade to LW_Serial_Bridge for half price.
No, They will co-exist, just be sure to give the desktop printers different names. Try LW_Serial_Bridge side by side with "LW310 downoad" for a couple of days. I think you will like the improvements.
